Childhood dreams can come true in Bendigo, Australia, to be a tram driver – and for a whole day! It’s all aboard the heritage tram in the charming gold rush town of Bendigo in central Victoria.
Tram Driver for a Day with Bendigo Tramways is an Australian first, where visitors can take the controls of a century-old tram and glide through Bendigo’s historic streets, guided by a professional driver.
The full-day experience begins with coffee at the Tram Café before a safety briefing and behind-the-scenes access to Australia’s oldest operating tram depot. Here, participants explore the world-renowned Bendigo Tramways Workshop, where vintage trams are lovingly restored.
Then comes the highlight – sliding into the driver’s seat to operate a heritage tram along a route that’s been running since 1890. Equal parts heritage, engineering and hands-on thrill, this is a rare chance to connect with Bendigo’s living history in the most immersive way possible. (NAN/TA 28-08-25)
