Nur in Australien: Koala im Schlafzimmer

Normalerweise sind Koalas in Eukalyptusbäumen zu finden, aber ein Ehepaar in Australien kam diese Woche nach Hause und war schockiert, als es eines der Beuteltiere in seinem Schlafzimmer fand. „Ich war erschrocken, glücklich und aufgeregt zugleich“, sagte Dias Rufino gegenüber CNN aus Adelaide in Südaustralien.

Rufino, die aus Brasilien nach Australien gezogen ist, postete die unerwartete Begegnung auf Instagram und sagte, sie sei sprachlos gewesen, als sie das Beuteltier in ihrem Haus sah. „Ich war so nervös, dass ich mein Englisch vergies“, schrieb sie in einem Instagram-Post mit der Bemerkung ‚Nur in Australien‘.

Auf dem Video war zu sehen, wie der Koala auf dem Boden neben ihrem Bett saß und Rufino und ihren Mann Brunno anstarrte, bevor er auf einen Nachttisch kletterte. Dann hüpfte er auf das Bett, wie Rufino dem Sender CNN mitteilte. „Ich war nervös und machte mir Sorgen, wie wir es schaffen würden, ihn aus dem Haus zu bekommen“, sagte sie.

Der Koala verließ das Schlafzimmer, nachdem Brunno mit einem Pullover versucht hatte, ihn nach draußen zu führen. Auf dem Video ist zu sehen, wie der Koala um das Haus herumwuselt und vermutlich nach einem Ausweg sucht, während Rufino im Hintergrund verzweifelt schreit. Koalas greifen selten Menschen an und sind meist in den Wipfeln von Bäumen zu sehen, wo sie gemächlich an Eukalyptusblättern kauen.

Rufino sagte, dass ihr Mann später eine Decke benutzte, um den Koala zu verscheuchen, und dass er dann seinen Weg zur Tür fand. Sie erzählte, dass sie gelegentlich Koalas auf der Straße oder in Eukalyptusbäumen in ihrer Gegend sieht und glaubt, dass sich dieses Tier durch die Haustür eingeschlichen haben könnte.

Koalas, die vor allem an der Ost- und Südostküste Australiens vorkommen, sind in New South Wales, Queensland und dem Australian Capital Territory vom Aussterben bedroht, vor allem aufgrund von Krankheiten, Dürre, Buschbränden und Landrodung. In Südaustralien, wo die Rufinos leben, sind die Koala-Bestände stabil, und in einigen Gebieten sind die Populationen so gesund, dass sie zum Schutz des Lebensraums verwaltet werden.

Obwohl es den südlichen Koalas gut geht, wird befürchtet, dass Krankheiten und der Verlust von Lebensraum zu einem weiteren Rückgang der gefährdeten Populationen an der Ostküste Australiens führen könnten.
Im Jahr 2022 wurde ein nationaler 10-Jahres-Plan zur Wiederauffüllung der Bestände ins Leben gerufen, doch zwei Jahre später sind die langfristigen Überlebensaussichten für wild lebende Koalas in den aufgelisteten Gebieten weiterhin schlecht“, heißt es in einem im Mai veröffentlichten Jahresbericht.
