More New Zealanders will be able to travel seamlessly between regional communities across the country as Air New Zealand and Air Chathams expand their partnership.
For the first time, customers travelling to and from the Chatham Islands will be able to book a single journey connecting them with Air New Zealand’s domestic network. The expanded partnership will also bring Whanganui into the network, building on the successful launch of interline services to Whakatāne earlier this year.
Air New Zealand Chief Executive Nikhil Ravishankar says partnerships like this play an important role in connecting New Zealanders and supporting regional New Zealand.
“The growing complexity and economics of regional aviation highlights why airlines and the wider sector need to work together in new ways. Air New Zealand and Air Chathams are both proud airlines with a long history of connecting New Zealanders, and we share a commitment to finding practical ways to strengthen the country’s aviation network.
“Seamless connections into our network make a real difference. By working together, we’re making it easier for customers to travel, supporting regional economies, and demonstrating what’s possible when Kiwi airlines collaborate,” says Nikhil Ravishankar.
Air Chathams Chief Executive Duane Emeny says the expansion is an important milestone for the airline and the communities it serves.

“For the Chatham Islands, this is an especially significant milestone. For the first time, customers will be able to book a single ticket connecting them with destinations across New Zealand. It simplifies travel for residents, opens up new opportunities for local businesses and tourism, and makes it much easier for more people to experience one of New Zealand’s most unique destinations,’ says Duane Emeny.
Associate Transport Minister Hon James Meager says air connectivity is critical to New Zealand’s future.
“Strong regional air links are essential to New Zealand’s economy and to the people who rely on them every day. They connect communities with jobs, education, healthcare and tourism opportunities, while helping regional businesses reach markets across the country.
“This partnership is a great example of industry working together to strengthen regional connectivity, make travel simpler and support the long-term resilience of New Zealand’s aviation network,” says James Meager.
The announcement coincides with the completion of the new terminal at Inia William Tuuta Memorial Airport, creating a modern gateway to the Chatham Islands and supporting future growth in tourism, business and regional connectivity. The expanded network connectivity between Air New Zealand and Air Chathams starts from 13 August 2026.
