Neuseeland 2021: Quarantänefreies Reisen nach Australien und Cook Inseln wieder möglich

Quarantänefreies Reisen von Neuseeland nach Australien (im Bild der Hafen von Sydney in New South Wales) und umgekehrt soll nach dem Willen der neuseeländischen Regierung im Frühjahr 2021 wieder möglich werden

Neuseeland will im ersten Quartal 2021 internationales Reisen nach Australien und auf die Cook Inseln auch ohne Quarantäne-Zwang wieder möglich machen. Dies bedeutet, kostspielige 14-tägige Aufenthalte in Isolations-Hotels bei Ankunft und Rückkehr der Reisenden sind künftig nicht mehr vorgeschrieben.

Die Premierministerin Neuseelands, Jacinda Ardern, betonte jedoch, nur wenn sich das australische Kabinett dazu offiziell bereit erklärte und die positive COVID-19-Situation innnerhalb der beiden Nachbarstaaten sich nicht ändere, sei dieser Schritt möglich. Ein sogenanntes “Travel Bubble”-Abkommen mit den Cook Inseln sei bereits ratifiziert und würde Ende März 2021 in Kraft treten.

Die Anzahl der aktiven COVID-19-Fälle in beiden Ländern ist weiter rückläufig. Die Cook Inseln waren seit Ausbruch der Pandemie sogar gänzlich coronovirusfrei. “Der jetzt gewählte Zeitpunkt ist richtig,” erklärte dazu Professor Michael Baker, ein Gesundheitsexperte an der Universität von Otago in Dunedin, Neuseeland. Aber die Bedrohung durch den Coronavirus bliebe.

Die Premierminister der Cook Inseln und Neuseelands, Mark Brown und Jacinda Ardern, erklärten in einem gemeinsamen Statement, dass ein Arrangement für quarantänefreies Reisen zwischen Aotearoa und der tropischen Cook-Inselgruppe gefunden worden sei.

“Das Abkommen reflektiert die besondere Verbundenheit beider Länder”, so die Regierungschefs. “Cook Insulaner und Neuseeländer können zwischen beiden Nationen wieder frei reisen, dabei geniesst der Schutz vor COVID-19 jedoch allererste Priorität,” so Ardern. (15. Dezember 20)
