Eine junge Deutsche ist in Neuseeland während einer Wandertour ums Leben gekommen. Wie die örtliche Presse des Landes berichtet, wurde die Leiche der 27jährigen am Wochenende von Rettungshelfern im Bereich des Fox Rivers an der Westküste der Südinsel gefunden.

Wie The Press berichtet, war ein Foodtruck-Betreiber abends wegen des verlassenen Autos der Deutschen auf einem Parkplatz bei Westport misstrauisch geworden und hatte die Polizei alarmiert. Die 27jährige, die sich mit einem Working-Holiday-Visum in Neuseeland befand, war bereits vergangenen Donnerstag zu ihrer Tour in die steile Buschlandschaft im Paparoa Nationalpark aufgebrochen.

Zu den touristischen Attraktionen dort gehöre ein Steilfelsen, der so genannte “Ballroom Overhang”. Allerdings müssten mehrere Flussläufe zu Fuss durchquert werden, um zu dem Felsen zu gelangen, hiess es weiter. Der Hike würde normalerweise einen halben Tag dauern.

Nach Angaben der örtlichen Polizei war ein Rettungstrupp am Samstag nachmittag bei gutem Wetter auf die Leiche gestossen. Mehrere Notfall-Organisationen, u. a. mit Suchhunden, sowie ein Hubschrauber waren eingesetzt worden.

Die formale Identifizierung der jungen Deutschen durch einen Gerichtsmediziner dauert an. Über die genaue Todesursache ist bislang nichts bekannt. (NAN 06-11-25)
