Neuseeland: Hundertwasser-Klo zum Kulturerbe erklärt

Eine farbenfrohe öffentliche Toilette ist in Neuseeland zum Kulturerbe erklärt worden. Das von Künstler und Architekt Friedensreich Hundertwasser entworfene “stille Örtchen” in Kawakawa (Northland) wurde jetzt offiziell als historischer Ort Neuseelands von der Stiftung Kulturerbe NZ (Heritage Trust NZ) bezeichnet und in die Kategorie 1 der  Stiftungsliste aufgenommen.

Der historische Wert der aussergewöhnlichen Toilette habe für Neuseeland und die Region eine hohe Bedeutung, obwohl das Klo mit Fertigstellung in 1999 noch relativ jung sei, erklärte Heritage NZ Northland Manager Bill Edwards. “Die architektonische Struktur ist einzigartig und die Toilette ist das einzige öffentliche Gebäude Neuseelands, an dem Hundertwasser noch zu Lebzeiten aktiv beteiligt war.”

Der österreichische Künstler und Wahl-Neuseeländer Friedensreich Hundertwasser, der seit 1973 in Northland zuhause war, starb im Jahre 2000. Sein Klo in Kawakawa hat sich inzwischen als touristische Attraktion entpuppt und zieht jedes Jahr rund 250 000 Besucher an.

Das leicht schräge Gebäude mit Goldkuppel, bewachsenem Dach, farbenfrohen Säulen, bunten Weinflaschen, recycelten Ziegelsteinen und unebenem Fussboden sei “eine Friedenserklärung an die Natur”, so Edwards weiter. “Das Klo bringt Freude. Und Hundertwasser war der Überzeugung, dass das Gehen auf Unebenheiten die menschliche Balance fördere!” (NN-21-07-23)
