Neuseeland: Anzeigen nach tödlichem Vulkanausbruch – Deutscher stirbt an seinen Verletzungen

Insgesamt 13 Unternehmen, Organisationen und individuelle Personen wurden von neuseeländischen Behörden angezeigt, für den Tod von bislang 22 Menschen bei einem Ausbruch der Vulkaninsel “White Island”  verantwortlich zu sein. Weitere Opfer befinden sich aufgrund ihrer schweren Brandverletzungen weiterhin in Behandlung. Die Anzeigen sind das Ergebnis einer einjährigen Untersuchung der Geschehnisse während der Krater-Explosion am 9. Dezember 2019, bei denen  Touristen aus Australien, Neuseeland, Deutschland, China, Grossbritannien, Malaysien sowie neuseeländische Tourguides ums Leben kamen. Der Gerichtsprozess soll am 15. Dezember in Auckland beginnen.

Bis dahin könnten die Namen der Angezeigten nicht genannt werden, hiess es gerichtlicherseits. Bekannt wurde jedoch bereits, dass zwei Tourismus-Unternehmen, die privaten Eigentümer von “White Island” (Whakaari in Maori), Neuseelands Zivilschutz sowie ein geowissenschaftliches Institut, das für die Überwachung von geologischen Aktivitäten in Neuseeland verantwortlich ist, zu den Angezeigten gehören. Bekannt wurde auch, dass Geldstrafen von NZ $ 300 000 bis NZ $ 1,5 Mio angesetzt wurden.

Messungen vor dem Ausbruch hatten erhöhte Aktivität des Vulkans gezeigt. Warum dennoch touristische Tagestrips zu “White Island” unternommen wurden, soll nun während des Prozesses geklärt werden. Insgesamt 47 Menschen befanden sich zur Zeit des todbringenden Ausbruchs auf der Vulkaninsel in der Bay of Plenty, 52 Kilometer vor Neuseelands Nordostküste.

Ein weiteres Opfer der Vulkan-Katastrophe in Neuseeland ist Horst Westenfelder aus der Bundesrepublik. Der 64jährige starb am 2. Juli 20 in einem deutschen Krankenhaus nach Komplikationen während der Behandlung seiner schweren Verletzungen. “Horsti hat seinen Kampf verloren und ist auf seine letzte, grosse Reise gegangen,” so Ehefrau Angelika Westenfelder. Sie dankte allen, die Westenfelder in seinem langen Überlebenskampf beigestanden hatten. (2. Dez. 20)
