Eight Slovenian destinations have been included in the prestigious global list of Green Destinations Top 100 Stories 2025, confirming Slovenia’s position as one of the leading countries in sustainable tourism. The stories told by Bled, Bela krajina, Bohinj, Brežice, Jeruzalem, Ljubljana, Logarska dolina – Solčavsko and Miren Kras serve as global inspiration for the tourism of the future – the one that builds bridges between communities, respects nature and creates opportunities for a more sustainable and connected world.

The awards were presented on Monday at the international Green Destinations Conference in Montpellier, France, where the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism was once again showcased as a leading example of a systemic, holistic approach to developing sustainable destinations. The Green Destinations organization brings together over 600 destinations from more than 60 countries

In Bela Krajina, the Lahinja Trail was praised as Slovenia’s first completely Zero Waste event, setting new standards for environmentally responsible tourism. Ljubljana earned recognition for Ljubljana Tourism Week, which since its launch in 2022 has grown into a diverse programme of more than 150 activities for all ages and interests, co-created this year by more than 60 partners.

Bohinj impressed with the From Forks to Plates: 100% Local project, which promotes sustainable development and preserves the Bohinj countryside while encouraging visitors to enjoy fresh, locally sourced ingredients and support the local economy. In Bled, the project Beyond the Postcard brought together three storytelling formats – the promotional film Adventure of a Lifetime, The Bled Podcast and the book Bledology – to deliver an authentic and holistic story about Bled, rich in knowledge, inspiration and emotion.

The destinations of Miren Kras and Brda joined forces in Tastes of Love, an innovative cross-border gastronomic initiative that celebrates two seasonal delicacies – asparagus from the Goriška Plain and cherries from Brda. In the Logar Valley – Solčavsko, the Bicka Sheep Wool Festival was recognised for its celebration of the indigenous Jezersko-Solčavsko sheep, showcasing wool as a story of community, tradition and sustainability and helping preserve pastoral and handicraft heritage.

Brežice stood out with its collective brand Brežice Izbrano, which unites local farmers, winegrowers, restaurateurs, artisans and other providers under a single label based on sustainability, authenticity and quality. Finally, Jeruzalem was honoured for St. Martin’s Celebration with the Soul of Tradition and Sustainability, a festival that combines the rich winemaking heritage of the region with modern sustainability principles.
