COVID-Delta-Variante jetzt auch in Neuseeland

Der neuerliche Lockdown Neuseelands führte zu langen Schlangen vor den Supermärkten

Die COVID-19-Virusvariante “Delta” wurde jetzt auch in Neuseeland festgestellt. Bislang sind 10 Menschen erkrankt und in Behandlung. Mehr Fälle werden erwartet. Wie die “Delta”- Variante in das international hermetisch abgeschottete Land gelangte, ist bisher nicht bekannt. Die neuseeländische Regierung hat erneut strikte Ausgangssperren für die Öffentlichkeit verhängt. Wie bei Beginn der Pandemie vor mehr als einem Jahr gilt der “Lockdown” mit der höchsten Sicherheitsstufe 4 für ganz Neuseeland für mindestens drei Tage. In den Ausbruchszentren Auckland und auf der Coromandel-Halbinsel wurde Lockdown-Level 4 bereits auf sieben Tage ausgeweitet.

“Wir reagieren hart und schnell”, erklärte die Premierministerin Neuseelands, Jacinda Ardern. “Es ist einfacher, zuerst die höchste Alarmstufe einzuführen und diese dann schrittweise je nach Entwicklung der Situation zu lockern”. Mit der landesweiten Ausgangssperre erhofft sich die Regierung, eine Ausbreitung der neuen COVID-19-Virusmutation zu verhindern. 40 Prozent der 5 Mio-Gesamtbevölkerung ist bereits mit dem Pfizer-COVID-Serum geimpft. Lockdown-Level 4 heisst für Kiwis schlichtweg zuhause zu bleiben. Nur die wichtigsten Wege zum Supermarkt, Arzt oder Apotheken sind erlaubt. Alle anderen öffentlichen Einrichtungen bleiben geschlossen.

Der Einzelhandel meldete wie zu erwarten wieder lange Schlangen vor den Supermärkten. Es sei sogar zu Handgreiflichkeiten über gefrorene Hühnchen gekommen, berichteten neuseeländische Medien. Der Verkaufsschlager sei aber wie bei früheren Corona-Ausgangssperren wieder Klopapier, hiess es weiter.

Die COVID-19-freien Cook-Inseln haben aufgrund der neuen Entwicklung quarantänefreies Reisen mit Nachbar Neuseeland bis auf weiteres ausgesetzt. Auch das  quarantänefreie Reiseabkommen mit Australien, die sogenannte “Travel-Bubble”, wurde nach Ausbruch der “Delta”-Variante in mehreren Staaten, insbesondere New South Wales, bereits vor zwei Wochen aufgehoben.
