Avatar-Filmregisseur alarmiert über Neuseelands Umweltsünden

Der amerikanische Star-Regisseur James Cameron mit Gattin Suzy in Neuseeland

Hollywood-Filmregisseur James Cameron ist über den Zustand von Neuseelands Umwelt alarmiert und hat die Umweltsünden des Landes öffentlich angeprangert. “Das eigene Image vom grünen, sauberen Land wird von Neuseeland nicht erfüllt”, erklärte der Macher von Erfolgsfilmen wie “Titanic”, “Avatar” oder “Terminator”. “Die Flüsse und Seen Neuseelands sind extrem mit Umweltgiften belastet, das ist eine Tatsache”.

Seit 20 Jahren bewirbt die neuseeländische Tourismus-Organisation Tourism New Zealand das Land international mit dem Slogan “100% Pure New Zealand”. “Das Ausmass der Umweltverschmutzung in Neuseeland verlangt nach drastischen Massnahmen, um das Land in einen natürlichen Zustand zurückzuführen”, so Cameron. “Es gibt viel zu tun, um das “clean und green”-Image wiederherzustellen”.

Der 64jährige Star-Regisseur ist ein entschiedener Umweltschützer und betreibt zusammen mit seiner Frau Suzy nahe der neuseeländischen Hauptstadt Wellington eine Gemüsefarm nach organisch-biologischen Prinzipien. Beide sind derzeit im Begriff, die neuseeländische Staatsbürgerschaft anzunehmen.
