Celebrating 50 Years of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park
The 50th anniversary of the official establishment of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park was celebrated at the end of June 25. One of the world’s most iconic natural wonders situated off the Queensland coast, this anniversary marks an opportunity to reflect on tourism’s role in protecting the Reef, says Ecotourism Australia. The High Standard Tourism Operator program, which recognizes and rewards operators for their outstanding sustainability practices, is one such world-leading initiative.
Ecotourism Australia is very proud to be one of only two certification programs accepted by the Reef Authority as being mandatory for an operator to receive the High Standard Tourism Operator designation. Through requiring operators to be certified, visitors to the Reef can be assured of a world-class, ecologically-sustainable experience that has been independently verified. (NAN 27-06-25)
