Queensland continues to strengthen its reputation as the events capital of Australia, securing mega international sporting events that will attract visitors, support local businesses and build momentum towards Brisbane 2032. That’s according to the Queensland Government Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI).
In a first for Australia, the Queensland Government has secured the World Archery Para Championships for the Gold Coast in 2027. The event will bring more than 300 athletes from more than 50 countries to the Gold Coast Performance Centre from 30 August to 6 September 2027, showcasing Queensland on the world stage while delivering significant benefits for the visitor economy. The championships will also serve as a key qualification event for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games, further elevating the state’s profile as a destination for international sporting events.
Queensland has also secured the first-ever ANZAC Day Bledisloe Cup Tests, with the annual Wallabies and All Blacks fixture locked in for 2027, 2029 and 2031. The landmark agreement forms part of the Queensland Government’s commitment to delivering new signature events that grow tourism, support jobs and strengthen Queensland’s position as Australia’s events capital. The matches will create a unique trans-Tasman sporting occasion that celebrates the shared history and culture of Australia and New Zealand while attracting visitors and generating economic benefits for local communities.
Adding to Queensland’s growing events calendar, the Queensland Government has also secured the exclusive Australian hosting rights for the Socceroos’ FIFA World Cup homecoming series against football powerhouse Brazil. Matches will be played in Townsville and Brisbane this September, with strong demand already highlighting the event’s tourism appeal. More than 90 per cent of tickets have been sold, with 57 per cent of ticket holders travelling from outside the host regions, generating valuable visitation for accommodation providers, hospitality venues and local businesses.
